The Result of Kraepelin Test of Mental Defectives

Abstract
trol group but not in the experimental group.
4) The numb2s of mistakes were generally only few in control group but significantly many in the experimental group.
5) There was not much evidence of excitement in the course of performance of the experimental group and the form of curve appeared like a smooth wave.
6) The types of curve in the most of experimental groups were evaluated as abnormal or questionable and only a few were within normal limit. The types of curve in the control groups were all within normal or subnormal limit.
The Kraepelin test (consecutive adding) has been well known as the kind of performance test and used to investigate the activity of the human mental function since many years ago. It was also previously noticed by many authors that there could ¢¥be seen the intimate relation between the performance and the score of intelligence test or the stage of mental development.
Bourdon¢¥s method has been used for the one who has even no ability of adding; by the way of era-sing the each number with X or O.
The Kraepelin. test (consecutive adding) and Bourdon¢¥s test were given to 51 mental defectives as the experimental group and 60 children of normal intelligence as the control group. The result of test were compared.
1) The volume of work are markedly greater in the control group than the experimental group in every case.
2) The initial tension of the curve of performance are marked in almost all cases of the control group. It was almost not seen in the experimental group.
3) The effect of rest was prominent in the control group but not in the experimental group.
It is true that by Kraepelin test, it is unable to test every part of intelligence and find out the exact intelligent quotient. However, it is the au thor¢¥s feeling that on the diagnosis of mental defectives, Kraepelin test can be helpful to estimate the intelligence roughly, supplementing the psychiatric examination and study of life history. It has also the advantage to give the test to the group of many persons at the same time under the same condition.
